Society for Advancement of Viticulture and Enology

The Society for Advancement of Viticulture and Enology strives to cultivate and promote research, education and development of viticulture and enology in India and abroad.

Objectives

To cultivate and promote research, education and development of viticulture and enology in India and abroad.

To promote ties with other organizations so as to enhance the scope of Research and teaching on various aspects of viticulture and enology in India and abroad.

To disseminate knowledge on all aspects of viticulture and enology by holding seminars, symposia conferences, discussion etc. and publishing the proceedings and newsletters.

To promote processed products of grapes with the help of societies, clubs, processing industries, hospitality and other organization.

To secure and manage funds and endowments for the advancement of viticulture and enology

To undertake other activities relevant to accomplish the above objectives.

Activities

The society conducts various activities and events for the promotion of grapes and grape industry.

Grape Day

A Grape Day was organized at the NRCG on 20th February 2014 to showcase the available varieties, promising hybrids and various other technologies developed at the Centre. Four hundred and ten grape growers participated in the field visits and technical sessions.

Grape Field Day

‘Grape Field Day’ was organized at Dhondgavan, district Nasik on 8th February 2015 to highlight the potential of hybrid ‘Medika’ as a potential juice variety with pharmaceutical properties due to its high content of resveratrol and polyphenols.

One day workshop

A one day workshop on “Neutraceutical potential of grapes and its utilization” was organised at the ICAR-NRC Grapes on 20th March 2015 to streamline the current research endeavours of the institute in exploring the tainchurian varieties of grapes as potential source of nutraceutical products.

Talk on “Technical Writing”

Dr. Rajashri Roy Burman, Senior Scientist (Agricultural Extension), IARI, New Delhi, visited NRCG on 16th April, 2015 and delivered a talk on “Technical Writing” His talk was beneficial in writing research papers and research reports.

Brainstorming session

A brainstorming session on 'Phytochemicals: possible application in nutraceuticals and bio-medical fields' was organized at ICAR-NRCG on 17th June, 2016.

Open Grape Day

“Open Grape Day” was organized at NRCG, Pune during 3-5 March, 2017. About 400 persons were visitors in this 3 day event. The visitors were visited vineyards of different types of grapes, obtained knowledge on raisin making and wine making practices, familiar with spraying technologies, different insects and residue monitoring plan.

Dr. J. Satisha

Vice President

About 22 years of research experience in grapes especially rootstocks and biotechnological approaches in finding solutions to grape problems. He is working as Principal Scientist at IIIHR, Bengaluru

Dr. Sujoy Saha

Secretary

About 5 years of stellar experience in grape research management and overall crop protection endeavors. He is currently working as Principal Scientist at NRCG, Pune

Dr. Roshani Samarth

Treasurer

About 10 years of research experience on the breeding of grapes involving breeding for disease resistance and quality traits. She is currently working as Scientist at ICAR-NRCG, Pune
